Risks involving VPNs and Future Use

Of course, with anything on the internet, tools must be used with caution, and VPN’s are no exception. Many VPNs come with a monthly subscription fee, like NordVPN and ExpressVPN, but there are free VPNs that can be easily downloaded online. The issue, however, is that free VPNs can be dangerous to use. As a magazine section written by William Wayne explains, “Rather than protecting your privacy and ensuring your security online, many free VPNs track and sell your data, and put your PC or phone at risk of malware and hackers.” Free VPNs can be very risky to use, as they aren’t as secure for privacy. They can also contain malware, like some Android VPNs were found to have harmful viruses, free VPNs can also have ads since as mentioned earlier, some of these free VPNs sells data to third parties so they can use ads targeted directly for you. There are also free browser extensions for VPNs, like the one you would have for Opera, although the issue with that is that it would often only protect web traffic, and doesn’t give much protection aside from that. There are more secure options for security and privacy, such as paid for VPNs and the browser Tor, which hides your location by routing your web traffic through a number of servers. Before picking a VPN or other resources, be sure to do research and how it has been received by the general public.

The purpose of VPNs will largely stay the same, but how it’s going to used may be different in the future. How automation is going to affect VPN technology and how cloud technology will be interlinked to the VPN. While VPNs can still rely on remote users, research suggests that authorization and access will be going to work with the network itself while still remaining useful to the users. IPSec is a very secure protocol, but it’s harder to set up, and the average client based VPNs are far simpler, but also less secure. What’s going to change how we look at VPNs is who will be able to automate this process while still being useful to remote users. Regardless of how automation is implemented in the future, VPNs as a whole are important as without that secure transportation layer and encryption, information will be vulnerable.
