The next concern to focus on would be how privacy is secured through VPN’s. As Jinhai Zhang (2018) also mentions “Virtual private network is a communication environment. The characteristic of this environment is private. This kind of privacy is virtual, that is to achieve this kind of privatization through virtual way instead of physical way.” In essence, VPNs encrypt data through VPN tunnels, as it’s used to ensure information is sent and received privately. Information confidentiality and security is key for these systems to be reliable. The whole idea is to ensure that through encryption, information would be more difficult to steal and decipher, therefore also protecting the individual’s privacy. Further talk from Zhang (2018) mentions, “The essence of encrypted traffic is the encrypted data produced by the protocol in the transmission process by using a specific encryption algorithm to encrypt data packets.” Furthermore, encryption makes it so that a non-authorized individual can’t recognize and tamper with the text so that the information in the packet cannot be seen. At the end of the day, VPNs will continue to see use and will be continuously studied throughout the modern world. However, not every VPN should be trusted.
